Bradley Dean

Hi, My name is Bradley Dean, I am a stroke survivor! Everything was going fine, my brother and I had been working hard on my new garage. I had been extremely tired, I had headaches and numbness in my right arm for about two weeks. I woke up on Saturday morning, Oct. 15, 2016. I dressed as normal, went to get my coffee. I came into the bedroom and told my wife to hurry and get dressed we had a birthday party to plan and children to pick up. I went to get my 2nd cup of coffee and came back into the bedroom, sat my coffee on the dresser and started trying to clean off my shirt. I was pulling at towels and wiping my shirt and my wife, Kim tried to talk to me and I couldn’t respond back. She yelled at me to turn around and as she saw my face she said, Bradley you have had a stroke! I got to call 911. My mouth was drooping on the right side and slobber was running out of it. I got to the ER and then upstairs on the 2nd floor of ARH. Stacy Ritchie, Dr. MuHa’s Physican’s assistant came to see me and ordered several tests including an MRI. It came back bad and they were sending a helicopter to take me to University of Ky to take care of my stroke. I had a Thrombectomy and was in UK’s Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit for 3 days and their Neuroscience step down unit for 3 days. I had to have intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy so my wife decided to move me to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center. I stayed at Cardinal Hill 2 1⁄2 weeks and came home to Hazard and had 2 weeks of Home Health Rehab and then started outpatient Physical, occupational, and speech rehab at ARH Medical Mall. After 6 – 8 months of physical, occupational and speech therapy I was released because they considered me at a functional level. I still have disabilities in my speech, and my thinking processes. I have other disabilities that don’t show as much. I live life to the fullest that I can and I give the credit for my recovery to the prayers of those many folks who took time to pray for me and love me and of course the Medical staff at UK Medical Center and Dr. Muha’s PA, Stacy Ritchie. Remember, BE FAST, Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Smile/speech, and Time. Don’t waste time get to the ER of your local hospital immediately!
